Influence of the SNR of Pilot Tones on the Carrier Phase Estimation in Coherent Quantum Receivers

In Continuous-Variable Quantum Key Distribution, pilot noise degrades the secret key rate. We provide a quantitative analysis on this, based on simulations. At 40 MBd and 100 kHz total linewidth, the power of the pilot signal should be 30 dB larger than the quantum signal to reach 80 km.
