System Development: A Strategic Framework
Kybernetes · 2002
There is the little known fairy story by Hans Christian Andersen.About the Emperor who was proud of his software systems. He was so proud of them that he announced that there would be a one day celebration with an enormous procession winding through his capital. The day dawned and all the major systems related to running the Empire -the administration, finance, the medical services, the fire and police departments -all the systems were represented in the procession. And every loyal subject lining the roadside was impressed and clapped and cheered as each float appeared on the route. All but one little system analyst. He looked and he looked and finally turned to his big departmental manager and said in a squeaky voice , "But, sir, hardly any of these systems are truly cost effective"."Sh, sh," said the burly departmental manager. But it was too late and everybody turned round to look at the system analyst who had dared to mention the unmentionable.Perhaps it is only a fairy story. And perhaps not. This book is concerned with the development of software systems and the corporate framework needed to ensure success in that development. Why not dip in and find out for yourself?
