The Democratization of VR‐AR
Sébastien Kuntz, Richard Kulpa, Jérôme Royan · 2018
This chapter discusses on the technology used in a professional context and those used by the general public. It focuses on the first category of equipment: headsets and glasses. The chapter reveals the multitude of equipment needed to allow a virtual reality system to give the user the sensation of being in a virtual world and interacting with it. It discloses different approaches to creating a specific VR-AR application. The development of a VR-AR application is divided into two parts. The first part consists of developing digital simulations that process information obtained by the input devices and that compute the results to be furnished to the output devices. The second part concerns the communication between this simulation and the input and output devices. Increasing the field of vision and independence, improving the recalibration of superposed information and reducing costs – all of these are essential for a true democratization.
