The efficient spectrum utilization in the modern era has become the most important aspect because most of the licensed users underutilize the spectrum available. However, this cannot be compromised with the freedom of the licensed user. In this paper, an efficient algorithm, Efficient Interference Mitigation algorithm using CoOperative Localization (EIMCOL) has been proposed to reduce the interference at the primary receiver caused due to the cognitive users. In this proposed algorithm, cooperative localization technique like trilateration is used to find the coordinates of the primary users assuming the positions of the cognitive users are already known. The distance between the primary receiver and the secondary transmitter based on the localized coordinates is compared with the transmission range of the secondary transmitter. When the distance between the primary receiver and secondary transmitter is less than the transmission range of the secondary transmitter, the power of the secondary transmitter is adaptively varied to mitigate the interference of the primary user. In this algorithm, RSS information is also used to adjust the secondary transmitter power. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm provides better capacity and EVM reduction than the existing algorithms.
