For the past few decades, the new trends in computing have been evolved so that people can make a transmission for the computing model used, from the big, centralized, client-server systems to the personalized, use-on-demand systems. The traditional systems have been expensive and resource intensive ever since their invent. The chunk and array of hardware, software and experts required is daunting. On the other hand, we have cloud computing as the emerging trend in computing, which provides the IT resources and services to the users over the internet on an on-demand basis. One of the major areas where cloud is being adopted as the computing paradigm is in the education sector. In this paper, we present a survey of cloud computing, to provide a better understanding of which type of cloud could be used in the education sector to provide the users IT resources in a more efficient and cost-effective manner.
