In a cellular network, it is assumed that there is an exclusive use of spectrum by the network operator. One of the main roles of the telecom regulatory authorities in different countries is to assure clearance of interference sources in the assigned bands for different operators. In this paper, we introduce algorithms to automatically detect the existence (if any) of a jamming interference source in GSM networks. The algorithms introduced in this paper have been designed to be embedded in spectrum analyzers, and they only depend on the RF readings (power values in the frequency domain) of the GSM spectrum. Field measurements were used to test the validity of the developed algorithms in realistic scenarios. The results show that the algorithms can detect jammers accurately in real scenarios.
