Crowdsourced mobile app for flood risk management

Crowdsourcing is a way of gathering valuable information, despite geograhical separation, that acts as a revolutionary tool which empower people to participate in aged-old problems. This study focused on how to utilize crowdsourcing and sensors together to monitor flood prone locations in a community. A mobile app was developed to disseminate flood information and to make residents involved in preventing disaster caused by flood. Sensors were integrated to mobile application through Short Message Service (SMS). The application developed is used to receive and send messages to the servers to interpret and filter data for proper alert level display to all users.
