Nature as a Source for Inspiring New Optimization Algorithms

Nadia Abd-Alsabour · 2017

The different fields of nature inspired computing (NIC; also called natural computing) have proven their success in tackling many optimization problems. Many real-world problems were long known as unsolved ones. Meanwhile, many phenomena in nature and more particular the group behavior fascinated computer scientists to use them as sources of inspiration for developing new problem solving techniques. For that, this paper explores NIC and more particularly biology-based algorithms (as they are one of its most successful branches) emphasizing the natural sources of inspiration, basic design principles, and the scope of their applications. Also, It emphasizes how different nature inspired algorithms can be applied.
