Internet of Things (IoT) is the future reflection of internet based smart objects which are interconnected to each other and capable of pre processing raw data and taking decisions on their own. Surge in the research and application of IoT based objects has triggered the development of new IoT specific protocols and at the same time it has created various security challenges. The colossal size of the IoT network and resource constraint nature of IoT nodes has made the design and implementation of security policies for IoT network a cumbersome task as compared to the traditional networking. This paper presents an effort to describe the IoT protocol stack and some of the most commonly used protocols and comparison of it from security aspect. Also the paper attempts to present various challenges related to security from aspect of protocols, network and device.
