Lessons from cognitive science for computer science education

This article relates findings from neuroscience and cognitive psychology that are relevant to developing the thinking skills of Computer Science students. This ‘connectionist’ approach is adopted based on the premise that theoretical models of cognition and learning should be based on current knowledge of brain functioning (Rumelhart, 1989). Pedagogical techniques for promoting computing thinking that are based on these models are proposed.
