Pixel Value Ordering (PVO)-based Reversible Data Hiding (RDH) schemes are promising for the applications requiring high fidelity embedded images. This paper presents modeling and analysis of an improved PVO-based RDH scheme. For computing non-overlapping blocks in PVO-embedding, neighborhood pixels are important for better embedding rate-distortion performance. However, only horizontal neighborhood pixels with a block of size 1 × 3 have so far been considered. In this paper, we investigate PVO-embedding with block-sizes 3 × 1, 2 × 3 and 3 × 2 for better utilization of redundancy and correlation of image pixels. Particularly, with mixed neighborhood (i.e., horizontal, vertical and diagonal) pixels, an image block of size 3 × 2 (or 2 × 3) that creates a pair of pixels-trios of triangular shape possesses a greater possible correlation among the pixels. We therefore adopt these modifications in modeling a PVO-based RDH scheme for computing image blocks, and experimental results have demonstrated the improvement in embedding ratedistortion performance of the proposed modified scheme.
