Delta-modulated cross-correlation method for delay estimation on source localization

Jongheui Hong, Won Joon Song · 2017

Binary compared 1-bit acoustic code algorithm is proposed for low-cost and fast time-delay estimation on sound source localization. One-bit sequence of data is generated from each input sound by comparing consecutive data so that one-bit sequences are correlated to estimate time-delay between inputs. Comparing with the conventional generalized cross-correlation (GCC) algorithm which has been used as the representative time-delay estimation algorithm, the proposed algorithm is much faster than the GCC and as accurate as GCC, which has been confirmed through precise experiments. Furthermore, it requires much less system resources, which may lead to a low-cost system.
