Benefits of using particle swarm optimization and Voronoi diagram for coverage in wireless sensor networks

Manish Kumar, Vrinda Gupta · 2017

The coverage problem is an important issue in wireless sensor networks (WSN). This is due to WSNs characteristics, such as the random deployment of sensors, limited sensing range, and few number of sensors deployed in the area of interest. In the present paper, an attempt has been made to address the network coverage problem during the deployment phase. Here, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Voronoi diagram technique have been used to optimize the network coverage. The performance of the implemented algorithm has been evaluated through extensive simulations. The implementation results have established beyond doubt, the benefits of using PSO and Voronoi diagram in optimizing the network coverage of WSN.
