Alternate router caching policy [ARCP] for named data networks

P. Raghavendra Raju, M. Dakshayini · 2017

Since its inception, the Internet has gone through many modifications and improvements. The internet is no more used only for emailing or communication purposes. The usage of Internet has grown far more beyond these and has been in recent days used for sharing content which has led to the directions of developing content based networks. Named data network is one such approach. It is aimed to work against the current disadvantages of the IP and provide a new networking paradigm. The Named data networks allows each router to cache the data packet which incurs larger cache replacement time. In this paper, a new approach for caching has been proposed and is called the Alternate Router Caching Policy. This contribution aims to minimize the response time taken by the Named Data Networks and reduce the number of cache replacements that may occur at the routers in the NDN network thereby improving the performance of the NDN network. The caching policy has been simulated using ns2 and the effectiveness of the policy has been analyzed.
