Automatic measurement of user interface quality

Regardless whether it is installed on a Smartphone, Tablet or PC, the most crucial part of any software is the user interface. Complicated user interfaces are a definite “NO” in today's face paced world. Determination of the quality of the user interface is a slow process where scores of users are requested to test the early versions and experts are asked to test the software before it is released. It is found that actually users provide plenty of visual cues indicating the quality of the user interface while they are using. Starting with this concept we have developed a framework for determining the quality of the user interface only by passively observing the users while they are interacting with the actual software. Face to face questionnaires by the users indicated very high correlation with the user's opinion and the automated data collection done this way. The process not only automates data collection, but also massively increases the amount of data collected.
