In dynamic hand gesture recognition, the separation of hand part from the surroundings and locating the exact position of the hand has always been one of the major problems. In this paper we propose a simple and fast method to capture the trajectory of the moving hand and compare it with the trajectories corresponding to different gestures in the database to recognize the gesture performed using Dynamic Time Warping. For this process, a device called Kinect by Microsoft is used to provide depth map using infrared sensor for the hand part separation from the surrounding. The experimental results show that the method proposed succeeds in locating the position of the hand in each frame. Implementation of this process was done using MATLAB.
