Word spotting techniques for Indian scripts: A survey

Word spotting based techniques for document image retrieval have recently become very popular especially in Indian scripts because of lack of accurate OCR systems. Some notable work has been reported for word spotting in various Indian scripts like Devanagari, Malayalam, Bangla, and Telugu. However, there does not exist any summary and comparison of work reported for Indian scripts using recognition free approach. This paper discusses the architecture of recognition free approach and provides a comprehensive survey of word spotting techniques for different Indian scripts.
