Performance analysis of beamforming-based doa estimation in the presence of an interfering source

A source of interest is localized by means of a planar antenna array. The estimate of its direction of arrival, obtained using the beamforming technique, is biased because of the presence of an interfering source. We study the asymptotic (large sample size) bias in the practical case of sufficiently powerful (comparatively to the ambient noise) and sufficiently spaced sources. Particularly simple expressions are obtained for isotropic planar arrays and uniform linear arrays.
