Various lossless compression techniques surveyed

S. Jancy, C. Jayakumar · 2017

Wireless Sensor network is capable of sensing communication and computation. It is made up of thousands of miniature devices. A bridge between the existent physical and virtual worlds is provided by the wireless sensor networks. The most critical problem is the power consumption as it affects the lifetime of WSN. Typically, batteries with limited capacity power the nodes of WSN. This energy is the chief limitation in the development and design of WSN. Techniques like medium access control or routing protocol have been proposed to solve this issue. Data compression is one of the techniques proposed to reduce the transmitted data over wireless channels. This technique leads to a lower power consumption by reducing inter node communication. This paper compares the various lossy compression techniques.
