Two-phase load balancing for data center networks using OpenFlow

Nataša Maksić · 2017

By moving logic from switches to controller, OpenFlow enables fast and efficient implementation of new packet forwarding algorithms. In this paper, we propose the solution for flow based two-phase load balanced routing in data center networks based on OpenFlow. The proposed solution uses predefined aggregate flows in order to minimize needed configuration for setting up flows and to reduce size of OpenFlow tables. It also incorporates Proxy ARP functionality in order to avoid sending ARP packets through the network. By relying on general two-phase load balancing algorithm, the proposed solution is applicable to all network topologies.
