Mobile Ad hoc network (MANET) is infrastructure-less, self-configuring, self-organized, dynamic and distributive wireless networks having collection of independent mobile nodes which are free to move arbitrarily. MANET uses a multicast communication in various applications in which close collaboration of teams is very crucial. In this paper, we propose Optimized Expanding Ring Search (OERS) protocol which uses modified expanding ring search method during route discovery process and also analyze the performance of proposed protocol and Multicast Ad hoc On Demand Distance Vector (MAODV) protocol for varying node speed parameter value. For experiment purpose, we have considered ten number of receiver nodes in multicast group. Using various performance metrics like packet delivery ration, throughput, end to end delay and normalized routing load, performance comparison has also been conducted across varying node speed for ten receiver nodes in multicast group. We can see that performance of both multicast protocols is affected by the node speed value. For all scenarios, OERS outperforms the MAODV.
