Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) are finding its applications in almost all areas especially in Industries where reduced power conservation is the prime concern and protocols following reduced energy are needed. Medium Access Protocols (MAC) plays a very important role in energy conservation. This paper gives a brief introduction of MAC protocols, their classification and how Intra-Cluster communication takes place. A classification of few protocols is explained in detail. Clustering is an ideal way of organizing a network for reduced energy consumption. Intra-Cluster communication plays a key role in total energy consumption of the overall network. Therefore strategies involved in Intra-Cluster communication become very essential and the design should be flexible and energy-conservative.
