On-demand or “software as a service” deployment options for supply chain applications first gained traction in the areas of supply chain visibility and basic coordination between trading partners. Thanks to early success, on-demand supply chain management (SCM) is now being considered for more complex processes in the areas of supply chain execution, planning, and collaboration. Unlike traditional applications, which are paid for upfront and installed inside your company, on-demand applications are hosted at the vendor and are typically paid for through a monthly subscription model.
