Simulation Tool to Design Distributed Computer Systems

Focusing attention on the class of distributed informa tion systems in which a data base is used to respond on-line to queries from user-terminal, the main goal of the paper is to present a model formulated both in terms of the family iar CPU:I/0 and I/0:I/0 overlap problems and in terms of more significant parallelism within a single job in CPU.-I/O or I/0:I/0 overlap. A stoohastio simulator has been used to accomplish investigation of the system behaviour. The simulator can be a powerful design tool by making evident the effect of various design and operating parameters on the overall cost per transaction.
