Embedded user interface for smart camera

The proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) systems has fuelled the appetite for the sensing of data from the physical world. In this context, smart cameras are one of the more popular intelligent sensor mechanisms to meet this need. As smart cameras become increasing complex, yet cheaper and smaller in size, there is a growing need for an appropriate user interface. This paper presents a user interface for smart cameras that minimizes the need for traditional hardware interfaces such as keyboard, keypad and touchscreen. The proposed solution is focused on utilizing the existing available hardware resources of the smart camera to process visual images of the user input. The resulting data can then be used locally to configure the smart camera itself of transmitted to a remote application for further use.
