Feasibility-check-based phase-filter design

Tian–Bo Deng · 2017

A nonlinear-phase digital system like a nonlinear-phase communication channel cannot preserve the original signal waveform after signal processing. To prevent the system from distorting the signal waveform, it is necessary to insert a digital phase-filter into the original system such that the entire system has nearly linear phase. Such a phase-compensation measure can retain the original signal waveform. This paper proposes a feasibility-check-based design of an allpass phase-filter by using the feasibility-check (FC) of the quadratic-cone-programming (QCP) problem. This QCP-FC approach gradually reduces the peak error of the frequency response (FR) by checking the feasibility of the formulated QCP problem and finally achieves the minimum FR error. An illustrative example shows that the proposed QCP-FC approach can yield much better design than the existing noniterative QCP design and Rcone design.
