Crime is a social issue that generates a great deal of public debate about both its causes and the solutions for addressing it. Most people share a common view that murder, burglary, assault, car theft, or shoplifting are crimes but other actions may not be so obvious when first thinking about what crime covers, for example, domestic violence, driving offences, infringing copyright by downloading films or music, serving alcohol to an intoxicated person, or even breaching the conditions of a fishing licence.
