For Ubiquitous Navigation to become a reality you need to understand, in detail, what is happening inside the GNSS receiver when it is in the challenging environments we are trying to conquer. And that’s where raw measurements and the analysis tools come in. Last year, in Android Release N (“Nougat”), Google introduced APIs for GNSS Raw measurements. And in the next month we will publicly release Analysis Tools to process and analyze these measurements. Android now powers over 2 Billion devices. (reference: Google I/O 2017, Sundar Pichai) And Android phones are made by many different manufacturers. The primary intent of these tools is to enable these manufacturers to see in detail how well the GNSS receivers are working in each particular phone design and thus improve the design and GNSS performance in their phones. However, the tools will be publicly available, and will also have significant value to the research community. In this talk I will show you some of what these tools do, and how they enable you to see details of receiver measurement behavior that is not possible to see without raw measurements.
