Programmable multimode twin pump controller

Siphoning of water from reservoirs to rooftop tanks require pumps which consume electricity to run. The voltage and current requirements of a pump are directly proportional to the capacity of the pump which in turn depend on the capacity of the reservoirs. Running a pump for a duration that is more than that required to fill up the reservoirs is a superfluous expense and results in wastage of water. Hence, there is a need for a reliable, automatic and efficient pump controller. Our proposed Programable Multimode Twin Pump Controller (PMTPC) is a stand-alone microcontroller based user programable embedded system. PMTPC is capable of automatically controlling the corporation and submersible pumps by monitoring the levels of both rooftop and corporation reservoir tanks. It also has provision to simultaneously activate & operate associated water filtration units if any. Not only our system has the efficacy to reduce wastage of water and electricity but it can also be finetuned as per user requirements and availability of water. Our system allows the user to select from three different modes viz. the Scheduled mode, the Automatic mode and the Manual Mode as per need and convenience. PMTPC is an intelligent system capable of monitoring and protecting itself and the pumps from power surges, overcurrent malfunctioning and other abnormal load related behavior. Water in different areas may vary in quality and composition and as such the tank sensors are subjected to accumulation of salts and minerals with time. Our system's corrosion detection mechanism informs the user, when there is a need to clean the sensors of excess deposition.
