Highly Efficient Implementation of Physical Unclonable Functions on FPGAs

Stefan Gehrer · 2017

Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs) are an innovative way to use physical uniqueness of a device for the generation of intrinsic cryptographic keys. This work presents a new method for highly efficient usage of Ring Oscillator PUFs on Field Programmable Gate Arrays based on the partial reconfiguration feature. The stability of PUF outputs is essential for the reliability of the cryptographic key. Therefore, an extensive stability analysis involving both reversible environmental changes and irreversible aging effects was carried out.
