Retrieval Processes and Conditioning
Philipp J. Kraemer, Norman E. Spear · Animal Cognition · 2013
This chapter takes the view that the understanding of certain features of basic conditioning requires consideration of variables and processes usually dealt with under the heading, “memory.” These features, often referred to as instances of stimulus selection, include the consequences of nonreinforced exposure to a conditioned stimulus before or after conditioning and of the occurrence of one stimulus in compound with another in such a way as to invoke stimulus selection (overshadowing).
