Due to the tremendous increase in growth of the Location based Services in various sectors such as healthcare, traffic monitoring, home automation etc., the security of the information or data transmitted has to be ensured. On the other hand, depending on the constraints of the mobile devices, the cryptographic techniques to provide data security should be of light weight and low cost. This paper provides a study of ECC, the public key cryptographic technique because of its small key size and reduction in computational overhead. ECDH and ECDSA are the two techniques in Elliptic Curve Cryptography which provides security of the data in location based services. ALO is combined with ECC is proposed to provide best encryption ratio.
