Noise detection and its removal is very important in digital image processing. In this paper an Adaptive Decision based filtering method is proposed for removing impulse noise mainly salt & pepper noise. The proposed algorithm first detect the noisy pixel, then filtering is done using decision based algorithm. The filter works very well on removing fixed valued impulse noise. With little increase in computational complexity over basic median filter, these algorithms works well on different noise ratios. This paper also proposes hardware implementation of the proposed algorithm for real time execution. Implementations are checked on Artix-7 FPGA development board of XC7A100T-1csg324c device family using VHDL programming language in vivado 2015 design tools. The results show that the FPGA implementation of the filter has a good trade-off between resource consumption and noise removal efficiency.
