Generating patterns from databases is a significant data mining task for identifying undisclosed, interesting patterns from databases. The pattern mining techniques mainly emphasize on the extraction of frequent patterns. Research to capture the unusual events or the rare patterns has also become pervasive in recent times. Most of the research in this area is restricted only to the mining of patterns from static datasets. A growing number of applications nowadays are generating huge amount of data or data streams on a continuous basis. Static mining pattern techniques become infeasible when it comes to mining of data streams. This paper discusses the various techniques of mining patterns from data streams that exist in the literature along with the issues and challenges involved.
