In Brain MRI analysis, Image Segmentation is commonly used for measuring and visualizing the brain's anatomical structures, for surgical planning, etc. However, due to presence of noise and uncertainty between different tissues in the brain image, the segmentation of brain is a challenging task. To overcome this problem, a method is proposed which involves two stages. First, Contrast Limited Fuzzy Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLFAHE) is proposed to improve the contrast of the image. It is a combination of Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization and Fuzzy Enhancement method. In the second stage, the enhanced brain images are segmented using Otsu's thresholding method. Thus the segmented image with best quality is obtained.
