A few weeks ago TV1 reported a news item on Deep Space 1 (DS-1) spacecraft to be launched in early 1999. The most important advances in DS- technology, apart from its xenon gas ionisation propulsion, is that it is the first spacecraft in the world that controls itself using Artificial Intelligence. DS-1 notonly plans, schedules, controls and diagnoses its own activities, it also learns from its own mistakes using Al.
