Connection between a relativistic string and two-dimensional field models

It is shown that there is a mechanism which establishes an isomorphism between a relativistic string and a closed sector of a two-dimensional gauge field model. It is shown that the string sector is distinguished by conserved constraints, which are the Cartan--Maurer structure equations for the world surface of the string and the equations of motion of the string.
