PCMSim: A Hybrid Memory System Simulator for the Cloud Storage
Jibin Wang, Bohan Wang · 2017
The memory system composed by DRAM and PCM is a main application for the phase change memory, and the asymmetric write performance and endurance of which limit its uses. To address the problems, we proposed a hybrid memory system called PCMSim mainly applied in cloud storage. It takes advantage of characteristics of two-stage-write scheme and data duplication technology. The key idea behind PCMSim system is the optimizations of automatic write back circuit for the write unit. In addition, we designed hardware and software structures to fulfill data duduplication and the service to write cache line. Based on DRAMSim2, we have implemented PCMSim simulator to evaluate its performance and the results driven by real cloud storage traces show the good performance and space saving for PCMSim, as well as about 39.12% improvement of wear-leveling at best.
