Synthesis of Distributed Cognitive Systems: Interacting Computational Maps for Multisensory Fusion

Cristian Axenie · 2016

Biological and artificial systems must process noisy and often contradictory sensory streams to interact with their environment. This work investigates a cortically inspired distributed sensory fusion framework, which acquires sensory data, and identifies and exploits underlying correlations to provide a coherent representation. The approach is a promising candidate for robust real-time sensory fusion in robotics because of its scalability, its parallelization and its adaptation to sudden sensory perturbations.
