Hybrid Analysis of Non-Markovian Stochastic Petri Nets

Erol Gelenbe · 2000

Abstract A new analysis approach for stochastic Petri nets with immediate, exponential and non-exponential transitions is presented. The technique can be applied for transient and stationary analysis. Analysis is based on a combination of discrete event simulation and numerical Markov chain analysis. Simulation is used to determine times when non-exponential transitions fire or when the enabling degree of non-exponential transitions changes. Numerical analysis is applied to determine the state distribution in the intervals between simulated time points. In this way it is possible to combine up to some extent the advantages of state based analysis and discrete event simulation.
