Dynamic Connectivity Services in Support of Future Mobile Networks

A. Asensio, Luis M. Contreras, Marc Ruiz, Luis Velasco · 2017

Dynamic customer virtual topology services have been proposed to support cloud-radio access networks (C-RAN) backhauling (X2 and S1 interfaces). This chapter focuses on the backhaul network and explores dynamic customer virtual network (CVN) provisioning with quality constraints and bitrate guarantees to support such all-or-nothing connectivity requests. It summarizes C-RAN requirements for the backhaul links and describes the proposal to provide CVN with quality of service (QoS) constraints and bitrate guarantees. The chapter formally states the CVN reconfiguration with QoS constraints and the bitrate guarantees (CUVINET) problem and presents a Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) formulation to model it. In view of its complexity and the short time in which it must be solved, a heuristic algorithm is eventually proposed. The chapter also evaluates the proposed heuristic algorithm and considers it to study CVNs from both the network operator's and the C-RAN operator's viewpoint.
