Drone real-time control based on pattern matching

Marek Vajgl, Petr Hurtík, Petra Števuliáková · 2017

We extend abilities of the Parrot Bebop 2 drone equipped with a front camera by an object tracking application. The drone streams video into a mobile phone where the proposed application processes the movie, tracks the object and automatically controls the drone movement. In this paper, we show the theoretical background of the application derived from a general approximate pattern matching algorithm and also its technical realization with integration. Finally, we present a practical demonstration with the measurement that the application can run up to 20 frames per second on a cheap mobile phone while processor load is only 32%.
