WARpick: A 3D warping tool for seismic gather flattening
Qie Zhang, Bosen Du, Qingsong Li, Kenneth Gullette · 2017
We introduce a technique named WARPick for seismic image gather flattening. This warping tool simultaneously aligns events horizontally as well as vertically, by using the engine of Multi-Scale and Iterative Refinement Optical Flow (MSIROF) borrowed from Computer Vision. We share field data examples where WARPick estimates reliable and accurate 3D shifts that produce better gather flattening results when compared with the existing methods. Enhanced alignments of image gathers also result in improved AVO products and stacked images. Moreover, we demonstrate that WARPick's 3D shifts can be critical and necessary for aligning dipping events and only computing vertical shifts may be inadequate to align events horizontally.
