Investments on Information Technology (IT) have been growing in several business activities, as companies processes and strategic management are strongly depending on the support of technological services. Software development companies play an important role on this context, offering solutions that must be fit to the business needs of organizations. Software development companies are also facing similar problems, as aspects of competitiveness and services quality offer constant management challenges for their survival. These companies are usually built by professionals with technical background that somehow start facing a managerial role in their companies, as well as over the software development process. The objective of this work is analyzing causeeffect relationships among the critical management aspects of software development companies. The work was developed by an exploratory and qualitative research that was based on interviews with professional managers from software development companies. Results taken from the content analysis of the interviews shown that the most critical management aspects of software development companies are similar to the ones pointed out by the literature review, which were used for building the questionnaire applied to the experts.
