This r e p o r t d e s c r i b e s an input-output subroutine package f o r u s e under the IBSYS o r DC-IBSYS Monitor System on t h e IBM7090/7094. of non-standard t a p e records under the FORTRAN I1 and I B J O B sub-monitors of IBSYS.Handling of extremely long r e c o r d s , i n p u t r e c o r d s with i n c o r r e c t p a r i t y , s h o r t r e c o r d s , v a r i a b l e l e n g t h r e c o r d s , and mixed mode r e c o r d s are examples of good The package i s most u s e f u l i n handling u s e s f o r t h e package.Also t h e package t o w r i t e e f f i c i e n t b u f f e r i n g r o u t i n e s .may be e a s i l y used i r I n t r o d u c t i o n Much of the information which must be processed on t h e IBM 7090/7094 c o n s i s t s of t a p e recordings i n a format n o t e a s i l y handled by t h e standard l i b r a r y programs of systems such as I B J O B and FORTRAN 11.Such information may come from s a t e l l i t e s , r a d i o t e l e s c o p e s , and medical a p p l i c a t i o n s .T h i s r e p o r t d e s c r i b e s a basic tape input-output package which a l l o w s one t o write a s m a l l program t h a t handles t h e nons t a n d a r d input-output, and the b u l k of t h e program t o process t h e information may be w r i t t e n i n o t h e r languages such as FORTRAN.The package can a l s o be used t o pre-process i n f o rmation i n t o s t a n d a r d FORTRAN r e c o r d s .A new system t o b e put under IBSYS could u t i l i z e t h e package t o accomplish a l l of i t s input-output.The package r e q u i r e s t h e I O E X r o u t i n e s of IBSYS and w i l l Tapes o p e r a t e on any 7090/7094 IBSYS system w h i c h has t a p e s .a r e r e f e r e n c e d by l o g i c a l numbers which correspond t o the s t a n d a r d IBSYS u n i t s (e.g. S Y S I N 1 ) .Assembly parameters a r e provided f o r t h e package t o be assembled as an IBMAP o r FAP s u b r o u t i n e .An important f e a t u r e of t h e r o u t i n e s i s t h a t t h e y may be c a l l e d a t i n t e r r u p t t i m e s -allowing t h e easy w r i t i n g of b u f f e r i n g r o u t i n e s ., T h i s package h a s a l r e a d y had wide use.Versions of t h e package w e r e used e x c l u s i v e l y by two sub-systems t o accomplish a l l of t h e i r input-output o p e r a t i o n s .10s i s i n both the I B L I B and FORTRAN I1 l i b r a r i e s on t h e UOM IBSYS o p e r a t i n g systems t a p e s .
