A prototype software engineering environment was studied as part of the program to provide information to Federal agencies on software tools for improving quality and pro- ductivity in software development and maintenance.The purpose of a software engineering environment is to surround its users with software tools necessary for sys- tematic development and maintenance of software.This report presents the results of the study of the prototype software engineering environment with respect to its features.The report also presents several factors to consider when evaluating a software engineering environment.
