Dedicated Static Sampling Pointcut Designators

Sampling-based instrumentation is often used to make runtime monitoring of applications more efficient. AOP has long been used for monitoring but does not have the ability to support code sampling in its current form. In this paper, we present an implementation of two new pointcut designators in a static weave form intended to be used as code sampling tools. The implementation is created as an extension using the aspect bench compiler (abc). These two new pointcut designators serve as additions to the family of joinpoints in AOP for the purpose of code sampling.I.
