The fuzzy set fallacy
Peter Schefe · 1980
Fuzzy theory and logic have been proposed to be useful for applications in pattern recognition and artificial intelligence. It is argued that the concept of a set is due to an intuitive fallacy induced by a threshold probability distribution. A sketch of an alternative model for dealing with applications considered to be fuzzy ones so far is presented. The problem of handwritten character recognition is used as an example.
