F-0404 Forming-characteristics of Internal Thread by Fluteless Tap and Mechanical Properties of Nuts with Thread Formed

The purpose of this report is to present fundamental data for use of fluteless taps to form plastically internal threads. Influences of the hole diameter of blanks to shapes of formed threads being examined, relations between related parameters are formulated, and maximum tapping torques are made clear. Additionally, mechanical properties and tightening features concerning nut-threads formed by this method are described. This report is a part of results of a joint research in The Japan Research Institute for Threads and Fasteners.
