Testing and Evaluation Methods for Cloud Environments

As the technologies of cloud computing grow and mature, more and more cloud environments are built and used by software companies, organizations, academia, and individuals in their daily tasks. With the increasing popularity of cloud environments, it is an important issue to get the insight of functional and quality characteristics by specific testing and evaluation methods. Currently, several methods are available to test and evaluate functionalities, performance, and quality of different cloud environments. A thorough investigation into the testing and evaluation methods could be beneficial to software developers, cloud environment providers, cloud environment administrators and cloud environment customers. Therefore, in this paper, a review study is conducted to explore and investigate large amounts of related research publications. Based on the analysis, the classification of the testing and evaluation methods is provided for stakeholders to choose appropriate methods based on their evaluation perspectives. The evolution of the testing and evaluation methods is also introduced for researchers to serve as the direction for further studies.
